[MELOY-ANCHOLY ROCK] Folk-rock heroes the Decemberists are playing only two Northwest shows this year, and one will be at MusicfestNW. After the band’s ambitious 2009 rock opera, The Hazards of Love, Colin Meloy and his gang of merry Decemberists have been hunkering down in a barn outside an undisclosed Portland location recording a follow-up record with the help of R.E.M.’s Peter Buck.

All Songs Considered featured the Decemberists before they debuted The Hazards of Love at the NPR SXSW Showcase. For a band that had humble beginnings in 2000, the Decemberists have quickly become one of Portland’s most successful and respected indie-rock exports.

Since its 2004 MusicfestNW performance at the Roseland Theater, the band has made a great impression on the Portland folk-rock scene and is now poised to take over the world. The only question is, are you coming along for the ride?

Don’t gamble. The only way to see this rare Northwest performance is by getting your hands on a MFNW wristband or ticket. The Decemberists play with Laura Veirs, Blue Giant and Weinland at the Levi’s Pioneer Stage at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010.
